Israeli Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg's Home Attacked by Haredi Protesters
Dozens of Haredi demonstrators gathered outside the residence of Supreme Court Deputy President Noam Sohlberg in the settlement of Alon Shvut, Israel. Protesters smashed windows, damaged the entrance and broke flowerpots, and left a flag bearing a swastika‑style emblem near the house. After the assault they attempted to depart by bus, but police intercepted the vehicle and detained around 50 participants.
Israeli officials condemned the violence. The judiciary described the incident as a serious breach of security for judges and pledged cooperation with law‑enforcement to protect judicial staff. Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Yariv Levin, National Security Minister Itamar Ben‑Gvir, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and President Isaac Herzog all called for swift legal action against the rioters, while opposition politicians criticised the government’s handling of the protests.
The incident reflects heightened tensions over the Supreme Court’s stance on the drafting of ultra‑orthodox men into the Israeli military, prompting a strong political response across the Israeli government and opposition.
