Israeli Supreme Court orders extension of Karameh crossing hours
Israel’s Supreme Court directed the Israeli airport authority to take steps to lengthen operating hours at the Karameh (Al Anabi) crossing that links the West Bank with Jordan. The judges partially granted a petition seeking 24‑hour operation or, at minimum, later evening hours and ordered the authority to report progress by 1 November, without imposing a fixed schedule. Currently the crossing runs about 5½ hours on weekdays, 4½ hours on Friday and is closed on Saturday, with an additional 3½ hours of security checks, creating long queues for roughly three million West Bank residents who rely on it as their sole land exit. A recent modest extension added 2½ hours on Sunday and Thursday, but petitioners argue it does not address the core problem, and private companies are offering costly services to bypass the delays.
