Israel's chargé d'affaires criticizes Spanish government over Ceuta crisis comments

Dana Erlich, the Israeli chargé d'affaires in Spain, has expressed surprise regarding comments made by Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez concerning Israel's role during the recent migration crisis in Ceuta. Speaking at the Nueva Economía forum in Madrid, Erlich criticized the use of Israel as a “smoke screen” during a period of national emergency in Spain.

Erlich addressed allegations and disinformation surrounding the mass migration event in Ceuta, where at least 72,000 people entered the city on July 30 and 31. She dismissed claims that Israel was involved in the crisis, stating that Israel has no doubt regarding who maintains control over Ceuta.

Furthermore, Erlich argued that the termination of arms relations between Spain and Israel weakens Spanish security. Regarding Israel's connection to Morocco via the Abraham Accords, she noted that maintaining an alliance with Morocco does not mean Israel forgets its other allies.
