Israel’s Global Reputation Slides as US‑Iran War Strains Relations

A Pew Research Center survey conducted in 36 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas and Australia found a sharp rise in negative views of Israel. Only four nations—India, Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana—recorded more favourable than unfavourable opinions. In many Muslim‑majority countries, negative sentiment reached 80‑90%, with Turkey at 97% and Pakistan at 95%. European nations such as Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and Italy also showed overwhelming disfavour, while the United States split along political lines, with 60% overall negative but a far lower 37% among right‑wing respondents.

Political scientist John Mearsheimer argues that the United States effectively lost its war with Iran, a result that is reshaping the Middle East and damaging the US‑Israel partnership. He notes that none of Washington’s four original objectives—neutralising Iranian missiles, halting support for Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis, curbing the nuclear program, and regime change—were achieved, and the conflict has left the US‑Israel alliance weakened.
