Israel's Nili unit identified in Gaza operations

A joint operational unit named ‘Nili’, composed of the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet, has been identified as a key entity in operations within Gaza. Established following the October 7 attacks, the unit aims to identify and target Palestinians alleged to be members of Hamas.

According to reports citing the Times of Israel, the unit has compiled a comprehensive list of thousands of Palestinians over the last three years. To execute its operations, Nili utilizes a combination of human intelligence (HUMINT), facial recognition systems, and artificial intelligence technologies.

This development follows previous reports regarding the Israeli military's use of AI-based targeting systems, such as ‘Lavender’, ‘The Gospel’ (Habsor), and ‘Where’s Daddy?’, which were used to accelerate target identification and decision-making processes in Gaza.
