Israel advances plans for over 1,000 new West Bank settlement units

The Palestinian Commission for Colonisation and Resistance warned that Israeli authorities are accelerating settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank, approving plans for 1,024 new housing units on more than 1,069 dunams of Palestinian land. Nine plans have been reviewed since early July; 455 units have been approved and 569 are awaiting further planning. Projects include the Mevo Dotan expansion (455 units on about 539 dunams) and extensions at Beit Hagai and Asael (569 units on over 519 dunams). The commission describes the moves as a systematic policy to consolidate de‑facto annexation.

Since the current government took office, settlement approvals have nearly doubled, with 103 new settlements and over 300 outposts slated for legalisation since 2023, bringing the settler population to roughly 730,000 and fragmenting Palestinian territory. The United Nations repeatedly declares the settlements illegal under international law and says they undermine the prospect of a two‑state solution.
