ISRO forecasts three powerful cyclones in North Indian Ocean

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has issued a warning regarding increased cyclonic activity in the North Indian Ocean. Between October and December 2026, three powerful tropical cyclones are projected to form in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.

Data analysis indicates that the combined Power Dissipation Index (PDI)—a metric measuring a storm's total energy based on wind strength and duration—is estimated at approximately 13.06 × 10⁶ knots³. This figure represents an 83% increase over the average PDI recorded for the previous 44 cyclones studied between 1982 and 2025.

While the forecast suggests significantly stronger storms, it does not guarantee that all three will make landfall in India. The central government, meteorological departments, and coastal disaster management agencies have begun monitoring the situation closely to prepare for potential heavy rainfall, high winds, and storm surges.
