ISS Expedition 75 crew conducts microgravity health and material research
The Expedition 75 crew aboard the International Space Station (ISS) is conducting a variety of scientific research and maintenance tasks focused on human health and facility upkeep. Astronauts are utilizing Ultrasound 3 technology to perform blood vessel scans to study how microgravity affects blood flow, a study intended to support long-term missions to the Moon and Mars.
Health monitoring efforts include the PhysioTool experiment, which tracks blood pressure, mental capabilities, and sleep quality, as well as the Myotones investigation to measure muscle and tendon elasticity. Additionally, crew members are using visual field devices to monitor potential vision changes caused by spaceflight.
In the Kibo laboratory module, the Electrostatic Levitation Furnace (ELF) is being maintained to study materials at temperatures exceeding 2,000 degrees Celsius using lasers in a microgravity environment. Maintenance tasks also include replacing air filters in the Destiny and Harmony modules and servicing communication units in the Quest airlock.
