Issa Doumbia rises at Sporting Lisbon after missed Milan move
Midfielder Issa Doumbia is experiencing a rapid rise in professional football following his move from Venezia to Sporting Lisbon. The 2003-born player recently scored his first Champions League goal in a match against Lens.
Doumbia’s career trajectory has seen him move from AlbinoLeffe to Venezia, where he was signed for less than one million euros before being sold to Sporting for 20 million euros plus bonuses. His current contract with the Portuguese club runs until 2031 and includes a release clause of 80 million euros, set to become active next July. His performances have also earned him call-ups to the Italian national team under Roberto Mancini.
Reports indicate that AC Milan had previously considered Doumbia as a midfield reinforcement during the summer transfer window. The deal, which involved interest from Massimiliano Allegri and Igli Tare, was not finalized due to changes in Milan's technical and management structure. Doumbia's current form has reportedly drawn interest from clubs in the Premier League.
