Ferat Koçak suspends parliamentary duties after Remmo clan chat controversy

Ferat Koçak, a Die Linke member of the Bundestag, has suspended his political functions and participation in the Interior Committee following the publication of chat messages involving members of the Remmo family. The messages, shared by Firas Remmo, show Koçak sending respectful greetings to Issa Remmo's father and requesting that a video of a parliamentary speech be shared. Koçak has apologized, stating he was initially unaware of the identity of his interlocutors and calling the contact a mistake.

The incident follows an uninvited appearance by Issa Remmo, a figure associated with organized crime, at a Linke election victory party in Neukölln. This has led to intense political pressure, with Green Party leader Katharina Dröge recommending Koçak's exclusion from the parliamentary group and CDU expert Alexander Throm calling for his immediate removal from the Interior Committee due to security concerns.

Internal criticism has also emerged, with veteran politician Petra Pau describing Koçak's actions as beyond naive. Koçak has pledged to work toward full transparency to resolve the controversy.
