Issa Zongo assumes command of Burkina Faso's GSIPN

Police Commissioner Issa Zongo officially assumed command of the National Police Special Intervention Group (GSIPN) on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in Badnoogo. The appointment, which was formalized during a Council of Ministers meeting on June 18, 2026, was marked by a ceremony where Zongo received the national flag from the Director General of the National Police, Thierry Dofizouho Tuina.

In his inaugural address, Zongo emphasized that his mandate would focus on professionalism, commitment, and operational continuity. He noted that the unit's previous successes in various regions of Burkina Faso had built the trust necessary for this leadership transition. Zongo stated that the fight against insecurity is far from over and pledged to strengthen the unit's operational capacities to continue territorial reconquest efforts.

Zongo highlighted the importance of mental fortitude and professionalism for his personnel, noting that the team is already experienced in both urban and rural combat environments. He expressed a commitment to following hierarchical guidance while maintaining the unit's momentum in the ongoing struggle for national security.
