Issey Miyake and Wacoal unveil ‘Cocoon Body’ in Paris
Issey Miyake and Wacoal have unveiled a collaborative project titled ‘Cocoon Body’ at the Spring/Summer 2027 Paris Fashion Week. The initiative merges Issey Miyake’s philosophy of ‘a single cloth’ with Wacoal’s extensive research into human anatomy and body measurement.
The project utilizes ‘Melooop,’ a three-dimensional melt-blown technology developed by the Wacoal Human Science Research Center. Originally used for molding bra pads, this technique involves spraying fibers onto a torso-shaped mold to create garments. This process bypasses traditional pattern-making and sewing, instead allowing the garment to be shaped directly from the body’s form, similar to how a silkworm spins a cocoon.
The resulting ‘Cocoon Body’ pieces feature a sculptural appearance that remains flexible and moves fluidly with the wearer. This collaboration represents a new approach to manufacturing by integrating digital technology with three-dimensional molding, expanding the potential applications of melt-blown fiber technology in the fashion industry. A release date for the items has not yet been determined.
