ISSR San Metodio inaugurates academic year focused on freedom
The Higher Institute of Religious Sciences “San Metodio” in Syracuse has inaugurated its new academic year, with activities dedicated to the theme of freedom. During the opening ceremony, pedagogist and essayist Franco Nembrini addressed the complexities of how the younger generation perceives freedom, citing the need to address modern social challenges and the importance of rules.
The inauguration included a celebration presided over by the Archbishop of Syracuse, Monsignor Francesco Lomanto. Lomanto referenced the recent encyclical “Magnifica Humanitas” by Pope Leo XIV, which explores the concept of freedom in the age of artificial intelligence. The Archbishop highlighted the risks of social control and invisible manipulation through digital systems that can shape opinions and moral orientations, potentially harming the most vulnerable.
Lomanto emphasized the necessity of an educational alliance between politics, institutions, and families to navigate the challenges of the digital era and protect human dignity against modern dependencies.
