ISSSTE holds first urology outpatient clinic for 130 patients in Mérida, Yucatán

The Instituto de Seguridad y Servicios Sociales de los Trabajadores del Estado (ISSSTE) organized its inaugural urology outpatient consultation day at the Clínica Hospital de Mérida on July 4‑5. The event served 130 insured patients from Yucatán, with five urologists, five nurses and four administrative staff evaluating patients in four simultaneous consult rooms.

Eighty‑two patients received pharmacological treatment and forty‑eight were referred for surgical procedures, including laser lithotripsy for urinary stones. Diagnoses included urinary‑tract calculi, benign prostatic hyperplasia and prostate cancer. ISSSTE officials said the initiative aims to shorten waiting times for specialist care and indicated that similar future sessions are planned. Director of the clinic Raúl Nemias Uc Contreras and ISSSTE general director Martí Batres Guadarrama highlighted the effort as part of a broader push to strengthen medical services in the region.
