Istanbul and Eskişehir report varying air pollution levels

Air quality reports for Istanbul and Eskişehir show varying levels of particulate matter (PM10) concentrations. In Istanbul, a study by Istanbul Technical University (ITU) found that the average PM10 concentration across 26 stations in July was 29.77 micrograms per cubic meter, a 7% decrease compared to the previous year.

Despite the city-wide improvement, pollution levels fluctuated significantly by district. Sultangazi recorded the highest pollution levels, specifically at the Sultangazi 3 station with 56.66 micrograms per cubic meter. Conversely, Kandilli 1 recorded the lowest levels at 14.14 micrograms. Notably, Sarıyer saw a 76.37% increase in pollution compared to last July, while Ümraniye 1 saw a 46.76% decrease.

In Eskişehir, data from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change indicates that PM10 levels frequently exceed the 45 micrograms per cubic meter limit. In the Tepebaşı district, the limit was exceeded on 46.7% of measured days, while in Odunpazarı, the limit was surpassed on approximately 36.5% of days. The highest recorded value in Odunpazarı reached 168.19 micrograms per cubic meter in November.
