Istanbul Airport ranked as world's best-connected aviation hub

The OAG Megahubs 2026 report identifies Istanbul Airport in Turkey as the world's best-connected aviation hub, leading a ranking of 201 airports based on potential flight connections and available destinations. Istanbul surpassed London Heathrow and Amsterdam Schiphol to take the top spot.

While Atlanta leads globally in scheduled seat capacity, it ranks tenth in international connectivity. The report highlights that effective scheduling and connection distribution are more critical for connectivity than sheer volume. Other top-ranked airports include Kuala Lumpur in Asia and Chicago O'Hare in the United States.

Modern airports are increasingly evolving beyond mere transit points, focusing on passenger experience through architecture, dining, and leisure services. Industry experts like AirHelp also provide ratings to help travelers plan more comfortable journeys and navigate passenger rights regarding delays or cancellations.
