Istanbul Airport sets new daily flight record for Europe
Istanbul Airport has set a new record for the highest number of daily flights in Turkey and Europe, completing 1,787 flights on August 30. This milestone surpasses the previous record of 1,739 flights set on August 16, 2026.
In addition to the traffic surge, construction on the airport’s fourth main runway is nearing completion. Following technical tests, the runway is expected to enter service shortly. These developments were highlighted by Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu during the World Airports Experience Summit in Istanbul.
Turkey’s aviation network has expanded significantly, now serving 356 points across 133 countries. The nation’s number of active airports has also grown to 58, up from 26 in 2002.
