Turkish Container Vessel LDR Yaşar Survives Drone Attack, Reaches Samsun Port
The Turkish container ship LDR Yaşar was struck by three drones while sailing in international waters of the Black Sea en route from Istanbul to unload cargo at Russia’s Novorossiysk port. The drones caused extensive material damage and ignited a fire, which the crew extinguished without any injuries among the 160‑container vessel’s personnel.
After the attack, another commercial ship towed LDR Yaşar to the safety of Samsun Port in Turkey. Lider Gemi Board member Aykan Üçüncü said the incident highlights the growing risk of drone attacks on commercial shipping and praised the crew’s bravery in fighting the fire and securing the vessel.
