Bahçelievler construction collapse leads to building evacuations
In the Bahçelievler district of Istanbul, the collapse of a retaining wall at a construction site undergoing foundation excavation caused a ground subsidence of approximately 10 centimeters. The incident occurred around 03:00 in the Siyavuşpaşa neighborhood on Çavuşpaşa Avenue.
The collapse affected two adjacent residential buildings, one 6-story and one 7-story. Residents reported hearing cracking sounds and feeling vibrations, prompting many to flee their homes in panic. As a precautionary measure, emergency services, including police, firefighters, and municipal officers, evacuated a total of 20 apartments.
Local residents noted structural damage, including tilted doors and cracks in the buildings. Authorities have established security perimeters around the area to prevent further risk, and technical teams are conducting detailed investigations to determine the exact cause of the wall failure and assess the structural integrity of the buildings.
