Istanbul business fined 51,649 TL over unrequested beverage charges
An establishment in the Çengelköy neighborhood of Istanbul has been fined 51,649 TL following a consumer dispute regarding outside food and beverages. The incident began when two families visiting a tea garden were charged for four banana milk drinks brought from an external source, which the business had prohibited under its own rules.
Following a consumer complaint that went viral on social media, the Ministry of Trade conducted an inspection. Authorities determined that the business violated price labeling regulations by charging for items that were not ordered or served. Additionally, inspectors found discrepancies in price lists for nine different products.
As a result, the establishment received an administrative fine of 15,892 TL for the unrequested charges and 35,757 TL for the price list inconsistencies. The Ministry has also requested purchase and sales invoices for beverage products to be reviewed by the Unfair Price Evaluation Board.
