Istanbul business owner defrauded of 2.1 million TL by fake prosecutor

An enforcement officer posing as a public prosecutor has defrauded Ulaş Asan, the owner of the well-known Istanbul establishment ‘Kanatçı Haydar’, of 2.1 million TL.

According to an indictment prepared by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the suspect, Ömer Faruk Aslan, gained access to Asan through a manager at the business. Aslan allegedly promised to influence a pending commercial case involving Asan at the Court of Cassation (Yargıtay).

As the fraud progressed, the suspect reportedly used threats to extort further funds after Asan attempted to stop payments. The suspect was apprehended by police during a final payment attempt.
