AJet flight makes emergency landing in Turkey after bomb threat

An AJet passenger flight traveling from Ankara to Şanlıurfa was forced to make an emergency landing at Şanlıurfa GAP Airport on October 5, 2026, following a bomb threat. The threat was discovered after a note was found in the aircraft's toilet, claiming that one kilogram of C4 explosive was located in the rear cargo hold.

Upon landing at 20:05, all 136 passengers and seven crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft. Security teams and bomb disposal experts conducted a thorough inspection of the cabin, luggage, and cargo hold. The investigation concluded that the threat was a false alarm, as no explosives or dangerous materials were found.

Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak confirmed that the airport's operations were temporarily affected but have since resumed. Turkish authorities have launched a judicial investigation to identify the individual responsible for placing the note on board. Forensic teams have collected fingerprints and swab samples from the lavatory area to assist in the inquiry.
