Istanbul dancer Aynur Kanbur's 2016 murder solved; suspect Bülent Gündüz confesses

After a decade‑long investigation, Turkish authorities identified Bülent Gündüz as the killer of Istanbul dancer Aynur Kanbur. Investigators, coordinated by the Faili Meçhul Suçları Office and the Justice Ministry, traced the suspect’s movements on the city’s Metrobus system and through thousands of Akbil (transport card) records, then confirmed his presence on CCTV footage boarding at Avcılar and alighting at Mecidiyeköy.

In police questioning Gündüz admitted he entered the victim’s Fulya apartment on 24 March 2016, posing as a courier after saying “Paketiniz var”, and shot her with a hand‑made 9 mm pistol after an argument over her work as a dancer. He later discarded the unlicensed firearm from a boat on the Bosphorus. The suspect’s relatives were investigated but found not to be involved. Gündüz and two accomplices have been sent to court.
