Istanbul Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan distances himself from CHP

Nuri Aslan, Deputy Mayor of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB), has maintained a distanced stance toward the Republican People's Party (CHP) during recent meetings. Following a dispute regarding the meeting location, which was eventually held at Saraçhane, Aslan reportedly declined to identify himself as a CHP member, stating, “I am loyal to İmamoğlu.”

This political positioning has fueled speculation regarding his potential move to the Yeni Parti. The situation carries significant implications for Istanbul's future leadership; if Ekrem İmamoğlu faces a conviction in ongoing legal cases, a new election for the İBB presidency may be required. CHP officials are reportedly concerned that they may be forced to support Aslan in such an election to avoid losing control of Istanbul, a sentiment echoed by members of the Yeni Parti.
