Istanbul hosts Yoruk Week to celebrate Anatolian and Balkan heritage

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) is hosting ‘Istanbul Yoruk Week’ from October 8 to 11, focusing on the shared cultural heritage of the Balkans and Anatolia. The event aims to preserve and showcase the ancient nomadic Yoruk-Turkmen traditions through various academic and artistic programs.

A central feature is the ‘Yoruk Culture Symposium in Anatolia and the Balkans,’ held at Metrohan, which brings together approximately 30 academics and researchers from Turkey and Balkan nations, including Macedonia, Kosovo, Albania, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Discussions will cover the history, language, literature, and cultural legacy of the Yoruk people.

In addition to academic sessions, the program includes film screenings at Beyoglu Cinema, musical performances by master musicians, and a ‘Yaren Night’ featuring traditional folk music. All events are free to the public.
