Istanbul introduces new transportation and living supports for students

New initiatives have been launched to support students in Istanbul regarding transportation and living expenses. BELBİM, a subsidiary of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, has introduced the 'Istanbulkart Plus' for students. Valid until October 31, 2026, the program offers free card fees and shipping. It includes a 'Pay for 9, Get 10' transportation benefit, refunds of up to 150 TL at cafes and restaurants, and 50% discounts on digital platforms such as Netflix and Spotify.

Additionally, Üsküdar Municipality has extended the application period for its monthly Istanbulkart subscription support for associate and undergraduate students until September 30, 2026. For the 2026-2027 academic year, the municipality will provide a monthly support amount of 653 TL, totaling 5,224 TL over eight months. This support is distributed via reimbursement to students' IBAN accounts. Eligibility is limited to students residing in Üsküdar who attend state universities within Istanbul or private universities with at least a 50% scholarship.
