Istanbul invests 15 billion TL in new public transport fleet
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) and IETT have announced a 15 billion TL investment to expand the city's public transportation fleet. The project involves the acquisition of 550 new domestically produced, high-technology vehicles.
The new fleet will consist of 400 buses (including 250 diesel buses with 100-passenger capacity and 150 diesel buses with 60-passenger capacity), 100 metrobüs vehicles with 280-passenger capacity, and 50 electric buses with 75-passenger capacity. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in phases starting in October 2026.
These vehicles will feature advanced safety and comfort technologies, such as driver fatigue and attention warning systems, blind spot detection, lane departure warning, 360-degree camera systems, and telemetry. For passenger comfort, the vehicles will include high-resolution digital information and announcement systems, along with high-speed charging points throughout the interiors.
