Istanbul man suffers chemical burns from drain cleaner spill

A 46-year-old man, Ersan Akçil, suffered burns to approximately 15 percent of his body in Istanbul after a liquid drain cleaner spilled on him. The incident occurred in the Başakşehir district while Akçil was unloading the product from his car.

Akçil reported that the chemical caused intense burning, even melting his denim shorts as he moved toward his home. He received initial treatment at a local health center before being transferred to Başakşehir Çam ve Sakura City Hospital.

Prof. Dr. Mustafa Turan, a specialist at the Burn Treatment Center, noted that such accidents can occur due to leaks during transport or manufacturing defects. He warned that these chemical products can cause severe consequences, including blindness, loss of limbs, or death.
