Istanbul metro service disrupted by explosions at Ihlamurkuyu Station

A technical malfunction involving cable or transformer explosions caused significant disruptions on the M5 Üsküdar-Sultanbeyli metro line in Istanbul. The incident occurred at the Ihlamurkuyu Station, where reports indicate loud explosions and heavy smoke filled the tunnels.

Passengers were evacuated from trains after some reportedly waited in the tunnels for approximately 45 minutes. Security personnel advised commuters to stay away from the train cars during the evacuation. Firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene following the reports of smoke.

Metro Istanbul confirmed the service disruption via social media, stating that due to the technical fault, services are currently limited to running between the Üsküdar-Çakmak and İmam Hatip Lisesi-Sultanbeyli stations. The operator has not yet provided a specific cause for the explosion or a timeline for full service restoration.
