Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality announces school term transport measures
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has announced comprehensive measures to manage traffic and transportation for the upcoming school term starting Monday, September 14. IBB Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan visited the Disaster Affairs and Risk Management Department (AKOM) to review final preparations.
To alleviate congestion, public transportation—including IETT buses, Metrobus, and Metro Istanbul—will be free of charge between 06:00 and 16:00 on the first day. The municipality plans to operate an additional 3,665 trips to increase capacity and encourage commuters to use public transit.
Regarding school services, 94 İSPARK parking lots near schools will offer free parking for school service vehicles throughout the day. The municipality also noted that parents can use the IBB system to verify driver credentials and official service fees. Authorities will also conduct inspections of school service drivers and vehicles in coordination with relevant institutions.
