Istanbul Bosphorus Museum opens at Kabataş Transfer Center
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) has opened the Istanbul Bosphorus Museum and the exhibition ‘Mehtabı Sürükledik Sularda: Bir Boğaziçi Hikâyesi’ at the Kabataş Transfer Center. The museum aims to preserve the historical and cultural memory of the Bosphorus, showcasing the region's transformation from the 18th and 19th centuries through modern urbanization.
Curated by Ali Kayaalp, the inaugural exhibition features historical maps, engravings, rare photographs, and artworks from prominent figures such as Hoca Ali Rıza and Ara Güler. The museum is located at a site historically significant for maritime transport, marking the location where the first scheduled ferry services began in 1872.
In a related announcement, İBB Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan stated that a proposal will be submitted to the Municipal Council to set the entry fee for all İBB-managed museums to 1 lira for Turkish citizens. Additionally, the entry fee for the Şerefiye Cistern will also be reduced to 1 lira, following the model established by the Basilica Cistern.
