Istanbul official Ramazan Gülten marks daughter’s 1st birthday from jail

Ramazan Gülten, head of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Urban Planning and Development Department, has been held in pre‑trial detention for about 14 months as part of investigations into alleged misconduct at the city’s administration. From prison, he posted an emotional message on social media to celebrate his daughter Maya’s first birthday. In the post he described seeing her growth during brief prison visits, thanked her mother for caring for Maya in his absence, and quoted poet Ataol Behramoğlu’s verses. The message highlighted his personal longing while he remains incarcerated pending the outcome of the IBB case.
