Istanbul police arrest five suspects in 435,000 TL fraud case
Five suspects have been apprehended in Istanbul following a fraud targeting a martyr's mother in Mersin. The victim was deceived by an individual impersonating a police chief, who falsely claimed her personal information had been compromised by a terrorist organization.
Under this pretext, the victim transferred 435,000 Turkish Liras to a designated bank account. Following the victim's report to the police, investigators identified the account holder as 40-year-old Berkan Ö. Police in Istanbul, working with the Intelligence Branch, tracked the funds, which the suspect admitted to converting into gold at a jewelry store.
Through security camera footage and coordinated efforts, authorities arrested several individuals involved in the chain of custody for the gold, including Abdulkadir Y. and Mehmet Emin Y. The investigation revealed a network where the gold was passed between multiple people to obscure the trail.
