Turkey police capture fugitives and solve 39-year-old murder case
Turkish law enforcement has conducted several operations resulting in the capture of fugitives and the resolution of a long-standing cold case.
In Istanbul, Cüneyt Gökçe was apprehended in Bağcılar after nine years on the run. Gökçe, who faced a 15-year prison sentence for theft and unauthorized credit card use, had been evading authorities by using the identities of his relatives. Similarly, in Gaziosmanpaşa, Şenol Çan was arrested for a 2017 violent altercation that resulted in one death and four injuries. Çan had been wanted for multiple offenses, including theft and property damage.
In Artvin, a 39-year-old cold case was solved following an investigation triggered by a woman's failure to update her national ID card. Authorities discovered human remains in a forest near Şavşat, leading to the arrest of Nigar Bilgin’s husband, Zeki Bilgin, for her murder.
Additional arrests were reported in Ağrı, where three individuals with finalized prison sentences for theft, fraud, and property damage were taken into custody. In Ankara, a man facing 25 years in prison for ten different crimes was captured in Sincan by gendarmerie forces.
