Turkey police conduct widespread narcotics and fraud operations
Law enforcement agencies across Turkey have conducted a series of significant operations targeting narcotics trafficking and organized insurance fraud. In Istanbul, police intercepted a shipment of 1.64 million synthetic pills in Sultanbeyli after suspects falsely claimed they were transporting cancer medication. Separate operations in Maltepe and Kartal resulted in the seizure of over 1 kilogram of cocaine and 1.7 kilograms of cannabis, leading to two arrests.
In Batman, a major investigation into organized insurance fraud revealed that a group allegedly orchestrated 41 staged traffic accidents between 2022 and 2024. The scheme reportedly caused approximately 260 million lira in losses across eight insurance companies. Authorities have arrested 21 suspects in connection with this fraud.
Additional narcotics raids were reported in several other provinces. In Zonguldak, five suspects were arrested following the seizure of methamphetamine and cocaine. In Bursa, police discovered a cannabis greenhouse operating inside the basement of a butcher shop. Other enforcement actions in Antalya, Batman, Malatya, Bilecik, Kırıkkale, and Sakarya also resulted in various drug seizures and arrests.
