Istanbul police investigate death of Kazakh national Aisulu Bekmakhanova
Authorities in Istanbul are investigating the death of 26-year-old Aisulu Bekmakhanova, a Kazakh national, who died after falling from a building in the Şişli district. The incident occurred in the Ergenekon neighborhood when Bekmakhanova reportedly attempted to move from her sixth-floor balcony to the roof of an adjacent building.
During the transition, a roof panel broke, causing her to fall into an apartment shaft. A final photograph of Bekmakhanova sitting on the edge of the roof was recovered, taken by her Russian roommate, Daria B. According to statements, Bekmakhanova had told her roommate, “I will sit here, you sleep,” after being warned about the danger.
Following the incident, police detained Bekmakhanova’s roommate, Daria B., and her partner, Mazhar T., as part of the investigation. Bekmakhanova had arrived in Turkey approximately one month ago on a tourist visa. Her body was transferred to the Forensic Medicine Institute for further examination.
