Istanbul police search for murder suspect Nazir Ilgın

Authorities are searching for Nazir Ilgın, a suspect wanted for the murder of Müge Şahin in Istanbul's Şişli district. The suspect reportedly killed Şahin in the street before fleeing the scene.

The incident has brought renewed scrutiny to Ilgın's criminal history. In 2020, Ilgın was convicted of attacking a nurse, Ceylan G., and attempting to slit her throat. Although he was sentenced to 14 years in prison for that assault, he was released after five years through supervised release.

At the time of the 2020 attack, the release of the perpetrator drew public criticism, including comments from President Erdoğan. Ceylan G., who survived the previous attack, has joined the victim's family in calling for the immediate apprehension of the suspect.
