Turkey launches major operations against C31K crime group and corruption
Turkish authorities have launched several major law enforcement operations targeting various criminal activities. In a significant crackdown on a new-generation crime group known as 'C31K' (Cehennemin 31. Katı), the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office coordinated simultaneous raids across 22 provinces. The investigation revealed that the group used social media and communication platforms like Telegram, Discord, X, and YouTube to share obscene images of children, insult national values, and spread threats. Notably, authorities identified plans for armed attacks on three different schools in three provinces during the upcoming school year. Of the 32 suspects identified, 27 have been apprehended, including 19 minors.
In separate developments, investigations into municipal corruption in Seferihisar and Menderes have led to multiple arrests. In Seferihisar, former Mayor İsmail Yetişkin is implicated in a scheme involving bribery, irregular zoning, and illicit financial transfers, with evidence including WhatsApp messages detailing cash deliveries via drivers and personal expenses covered by public funds. In Menderes, several officials, including the Deputy Mayor, were detained regarding allegations of bribery and official misconduct.
Additionally, police in Kocaeli conducted an operation against a cyber-fraud ring that posed as stock market executives. The group used foreign phone lines and the 'TRUST WALLET' app to defraud citizens, transferring millions of liras into gold, cryptocurrency, and offshore accounts. Meanwhile, in Tekirdağ, the Gendarmerie reported significant seizures of narcotics, weapons, and smuggled goods during August operations.
