Istanbul money laundering probe: Emir Sarıgül alleges political payments

An investigation into a large-scale money laundering scheme in Istanbul has led to the arrest of 24 suspects. The probe, conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, involves allegations that high amounts of money were laundered through domestic and international companies using investment contracts to disguise criminal proceeds.

Emir Sarıgül, one of the detainees, provided additional testimony to prosecutors alleging that his father, Mustafa Sarıgül, made multiple cash payments to Özgür Özel, the leader of the CHP. According to Emir Sarıgül, his father allegedly left 250,000 USD in the back of Özel's vehicle following a dinner in Ankara to fund the interior decoration of the Yeni Parti headquarters. He further claimed that an additional 100,000 USD was delivered to Özel hidden inside a gift package containing scarves during a dinner at a residence in Istanbul.

Zeynel Emre, spokesperson for the Yeni Parti, has denied these allegations, calling them “completely false” and an “open slander.” Emre stated that the party's bus was purchased through public donations and that all relevant invoices are available. The investigation into the Sarıgül family's assets and the alleged laundering of funds continues.
