Istanbul security guard Ahmet Akarsu killed; suspect arrested after 7‑hour hunt

On 1 June 2024 in the Küçükçekmece district of Istanbul, security guard Ahmet Akarsu (45) was shot while riding his motorcycle to work. The gunman, identified as his colleague Muhammet E. K., ambushed Akarsu on Çakır Street and continued firing as the victim tried to flee. Akarsu was taken to a hospital with three gunshot wounds but died despite medical treatment.

Police reviewed security‑camera footage from the neighbourhood, identified the shooter, and located him at the same work site where both men were employed. Within seven hours of the attack, officers detained Muhammet E. K. He told investigators the shooting was motivated by personal insults. The investigation remains ongoing.
