Basketball Without Borders Next Up camp begins in Istanbul

The Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Next Up men’s camp has commenced in Istanbul, Turkey, marking the first implementation of the program’s new format. Organized by the NBA, FIBA, and the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF), the event is being held at the Basketbol Gelişim Merkezi from August 26 to 29.

The camp brings together 78 high-school-aged talents representing 44 countries and regions across six continents. Participants engage in athletic testing, skill development stations, 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 matches, and life skills seminars. The program aims to provide elite prospects with direct guidance from current and former NBA and FIBA players and coaches, including figures such as Kenny Atkinson, Vlade Divac, Danilo Gallinari, Brook Lopez, and Khris Middleton.

In addition to player development, the event serves as a platform for discussing future basketball initiatives. Cleveland Cavaliers head coach Kenny Atkinson noted that the upcoming NBA Europe project, planned for 2027, will foster closer ties between the NBA, FIBA, and European clubs, potentially creating more economic opportunities for players. The BWB program celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, continuing its mission to identify global talent and promote leadership and positive values in sports.
