Istanbul to install Electronic Monitoring System at 128 traffic points
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s Transport Coordination Centre (UKOME) approved the deployment of Electronic Monitoring System (EDS) devices at 128 locations across the city. The units will measure average speed and detect red‑light violations in major tunnels such as the Eurasia Tunnel, Halit Ulukurt Tunnel, Libadiye Çamlıca Tunnel and the Çamlıca Connection Tunnel, as well as on streets including Cumhuriyet Avenue in Bağcılar, Değirmenbahçe in Bahçelievler, Beşiktaş Avenue, Küçüksu Street in Ümraniye and Şehitler Street in Esenyurt.
The meeting also mandated that electric scooter operators construct 1,934 parking spaces within 90 days, warning that permits will be revoked if the deadline is missed; only 227 spaces have so far been built. Additionally, the Kadıköy Waterfront Greening Project will shift the terminus of 13 bus lines from Kadıköy’s coast to the Uzunçayır station, altering routes such as 319 Kayışdağı‑Kadıköy and 14BK Çekmeköy/Parseller‑Kadıköy.
