Istanbul traffic paralyzed by heavy rainfall
Heavy rainfall in Istanbul has caused severe traffic congestion across both the European and Anatolian sides of the city. According to data from the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, overall traffic density reached up to 80 percent, with the Anatolian side recording 85 percent and the European side at 76 percent.
On the Anatolian side, major bottlenecks were reported on the D-100 highway from Kadıköy toward Pendik, as well as on the TEM highway near Ataşehir and Ümraniye. Bridge connections also experienced significant delays. On the European side, the D-100 highway saw paralysis from the 15 July Martyrs Bridge through Zeytinburnu, Avcılar, and Beylikdüzü, while the TEM highway faced heavy congestion near Mahmutbey and Bağcılar.
In addition to road traffic, public transportation hubs including metro, metrobüs, and tram stations experienced extreme passenger density. Major transfer points such as Zincirlikuyu, Uzunçayır, Altunizade, and Yenibosna saw long queues of commuters waiting for vehicles.
