Istanbul woman dies saving children from speeding minibus

A 41-year-old woman, Canan Erdoğan, died in Istanbul's Gaziosmanpaşa district after shielding her two children from a speeding minibus. The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon on Abdi İpekçi Avenue in the Karayolları neighborhood while Erdoğan was walking home with her children after picking them up from school.

Witnesses reported that the minibus was driving erratically and at high speed before losing control and mounting the sidewalk. Erdoğan managed to push her children to safety just before the vehicle overturned onto her. Although bystanders helped lift the vehicle to reach her, Erdoğan succumbed to her injuries at the hospital despite medical intervention.

The minibus driver has been taken into custody by police, and an official investigation into the cause of the accident and the driver's responsibility is currently underway.
