Istanbul's Eyüpsultan Square Begins Major Renovation
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) has launched a comprehensive redevelopment of Eyüpsultan Square, a key religious‑tourism and cultural hub. Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan placed the first stone on site, marking the start of works approved by the Heritage Board. The project, prepared by IBB Heritage, aims to create a modern square with expanded green areas, improved public integration and preservation of historic monuments.
Aslan said the new square will be "worthy of Istanbul and its history, with green space that brings the public together." Eyüpsultan Mayor Mithat Bülent Özmen expressed gratitude to all contributors, noting the site's significance as a historic Ottoman‑era landmark and its role in welcoming visitors from across Turkey and abroad.
