Istia, Greece: Gynecologist found dead in his medical office
Vasilis Papaefstathiou, a 65-year-old gynecologist and midwife, was found dead in his private medical office in Istia, Evia, on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
A patient discovered the doctor after he failed to respond to a scheduled appointment. Upon entering the office, the patient found him lying on the floor. Police and emergency medical services (EKAV) attended the scene.
Papaefstathiou was a well-known medical professional in Northern Evia and also collaborated with the REA maternity hospital in Athens. The exact cause of death remains unknown, and a forensic investigation is expected to determine whether the death was due to a sudden medical episode.
