Istiqlal Party approves new legislative election candidates

The Executive Committee of the Istiqlal Party, chaired by Secretary-General Nizar Baraka, has approved a new batch of candidates for the upcoming legislative elections. During a meeting held in Rabat on August 27, 2026, the committee finalized nominations for both regional and local electoral districts.

For the regional electoral districts, the party approved 12 female candidates representing various regions, including Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, and Casablanca-Settat (representing Moroccans of the world). The selection process utilized criteria such as party commitment, mobilization capacity, territorial equity, and professional qualifications.

In the local electoral districts, the committee ratified candidates for Ibn Mesik, Ain Chock, Mediouna, Jerada, and M'diq-Fnideq. The party stated that these decisions aim to ensure all candidates meet the necessary ethical, legal, and organizational requirements as it continues to prepare its electoral lists.
