Istria local elections: Mayoral shifts in Izola and Koper
As local elections approach in the Istria region of Slovenia, political shifts are emerging in the municipalities of Izola and Koper. Milan Bogatič, the current mayor of Izola, has confirmed that he will not seek a new mandate this autumn. While Boris Popovič has already announced his candidacy for the mayoralty of Izola, the full list of competing candidates remains unconfirmed.
In Koper, discussions regarding regional cooperation and municipal boundaries continue. The Mayor of Koper addressed potential cooperation with Izola, stating that personal or political disputes would not hinder collaboration if Boris Popovič were to win in Izola. The municipality of Koper is also pursuing legal proceedings to define its borders with Ankaran, following a Constitutional Court decision, and is moving forward with coastal development projects worth over eight million euros.
