Istria Public Health Institute promotes health literacy and prevention

The Institute of Public Health of Istria is promoting health literacy and preventive care through various educational initiatives. As part of the ‘Zlatne godine’ (Golden Years) program, a lecture titled ‘Health Literacy: Why is it so important today?’ will be held on September 7, 2026, at the Retirees' Club Reading Room in Pula. The session aims to help seniors navigate medical information, combat misinformation, and make informed decisions regarding treatment and lifestyle. The event will also include blood glucose and blood pressure measurements.

In conjunction with World Sexual Health Day, the Institute is also emphasizing the importance of sexual and reproductive health, particularly among young people. The Institute highlights the role of its Youth Sexual Health Counseling centers, which have operated for six years with financial support from Istria County and several local municipalities, including Pula, Poreč, and Rovinj. These centers provide reliable information to prevent sexually transmitted infections, such as HPV, and encourage timely medical consultation without stigma.
