Istria's wine growers expand vineyards as tourism showcases its Italian‑flavored heritage

The Istrian peninsula in Croatia blends Mediterranean climate with centuries of Italian influence, offering visitors historic towns such as Pula with its well‑preserved Roman amphitheatre, the picturesque harbour of Rovinj, and the UNESCO‑listed basilica in Poreč, alongside natural spots like the Kamenjak peninsula.

The regional wine association Vinistra, led by president Luka Rossi who was re‑elected for a four‑year term, reports the addition of 80 hectares of new vineyards last year. Vinistra aims to strengthen the global profile of Istrian wines, particularly the Malvasia variety, by expanding markets, investing in education and promoting the region at major international wine fairs.

Both the tourism assets and the burgeoning wine sector are presented as complementary drivers of Istria’s growing appeal to international visitors and wine enthusiasts.
